Ford had been producing factory made pickup trucks since 1925. The F-100 was restyled in 1973, the sixth generation (1973-79) Changes were mainly cosmetic, body panels were galvanised to help fight corrosion. The 73 model still had a split grille design with 12 openings each side, indicators were placed above the headlamps. The 74 was more or less identical, the 6 seater Super Cab was introduced. 1975, similar again, the F150 introduced, payload between the F100 and F250. In 1976, the grille was facelifted, now 6 openings each side, headlamps now outside the grille. 1977 saw a redesign of exterior trim, with the cowl insignias moved up near the windshield. In 1978 the grille changed to a larger single-piece grille. The base Custom and Ranger had round headlights, the Ranger XLT and new for 78, Lariat, got Rectangular headlights and a chrome grille.
