Joachim Jeremias

Joachim Jeremias (20 September 1900 – 6 September 1979) adalah seorang teolog Protestan Jerman. Ia dibesarkan di Yerusalem, karena ayahnya bertugas di sana sebagai seorang pendeta senior di Gereja Lutheran Injili Erlöserkirche.

Jeremias belajar teologi dan bahasa-bahasa timur di Tübingen dan Leipzig. Setelah mendapatkan gelarnya pada 1925 dari Universitas Leipzig, pada 1938 ia diangkat sebagai Profesor Georgia Augusta dalam ilmu teologi, hingga pensiunnya pada 1968. Pada 1976, Joachim Jeremias pindah dari Göttingen ke Tübingen, dan di sana ia meninggal pada 6 September 1979.

Karya ilmiah Joachim Jeremias meliputi bidang sejarah, sastra, filsafat dan arkeologi, khsuusnya untuk Kitab Suci Ibrani dan teks-teks rabinik yang relevan dalam analisis kritis terhadap Perjanjian Baru untuk merekonstruksikan ulang dunia historis Yesus dalam konteksnya. Keberhasilan Joachim Jeremias membuatnya terkenal luas di tingkat nasional maupun internasional. Namanya dimasukkan ke dalam Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Göttingen pada 1948 dan ia memperoleh penghargaan gelar doktor kehormatan (Doctor Honoris Causa) di berbagai negara.
