Anagarika Dharmapala (bahasa Sinhala: අනගාරික ධර්මපාල; 17 September 1864 - 29 April 1933) adalah tokoh kebangkitan dan penulis Buddha Sri Lanka. Ia adalah salah satu pendiri gerakan Nasionalisme dan Buddhisme Sinhala yang non-kekerasan.
Sebuah jalan di Colombo dinamai sesuai dengan namanya " Srimath Anagarika dharmapala mawatha.
Kehidupan awal
[sunting | sunting sumber]Lahir pada 17 September 1864 di Colombo, Ceylon dari pasangan Don Carolis Hewavitharana dan Mallika Dharmagunawardhana (putri dari Andiris Perera Dharmagunawardhana), yang merupakan pedagang terkaya di Ceylon pada waktu itu. Ia dinamai Don David Hewavitharane. Adik laki-lakinya adalah Dr Charles Alwis Hewavitharana dan Edmund Hewavitarne.
Kontribusi religius
[sunting | sunting sumber]Pada tahun 1897 ia membuat Miranda de Souza Canavarro yang dikenal sebagai "Suster Sanghamitta" menganut agama Buddha dan membentuk sekolah di Sri Lanka (Ceylon).
