Samudra Atlantik

Dunia Atlantik meliputi interaksi antar suku bangsa dan kekaisaran yang berbatasan dengan belahan Samudra Atlantik dari permulaan Abad Penemuan sampai awal abad ke-21. Sejarah Atlantik terbagi antara tiga konteks berbeda: sejarah trans-Atlantik, mengartikan sejarah internasional Dunia Atlatik; sejarah keliling Atlantik, mengartikan sejarah transnasional Dunia Atlantik; dan sejarah cis-Atlantik dalam konteks Atlantik.[1] Perdagangan budak Atlantik berlangsung sampai abad ke-19, namun perdagangan internasional sebagian besar dinyatakan ilegal pada 1807 oleh Inggris. Perbudakan berakhir pada 1865 di Amerika Serikat dan pada 1880an di Brasil (1888) dan Kuba (1886).[2] Meskipun beberapa cendekiawan menekankan bahwa sejarah "Dunia Atlantik" berpuncak dalam "Revolusi Atlantik" pada akhir abad ke-18 dan awal abad ke-19,[3] riset paling berpengaruh dalam bidang tersebut menyoroti perdagangan budak dan kajian terhadap perbudakan, sehingga masa akhir abad ke-19 dipandang sebagai bagian dari transisi dari sejarah Atlantik ke globalisasi.

Historiografi Dunia Atlantik, yang dikenal sebagai sejarah Atlantik, timbul sejak 1990an .[4]
