Herbert Clifford

Kapten Herbert John Clifford (1789, Nova Scotia – 9 September 1855, Tramore, Waterford, Irlandia) adalah seorang perwira dalam Angkatan Laut Kerajaan Inggris pada Perang era Napoleon dan pendiri Loochoo Naval Mission (1843).^[1] Pada 1818, ia menerbitkan Vocabulary of the Language Spoken at the Great Loo-Choo Island, in the Japan Sea, yang "masih menjadi sumber tunggal paling berpengaruh tentang rumpun bahasa Ryukyu di Barat selama berdasawarsa-dasawarsa."^[2]
