Katherine Emmons Force Spencer (12 Maret 1891 – 8 September 1956) adalah seorang investor real estat dan sosialita asal Amerika.[1][2] Dia adalah anggota dewan zonasi untuk Newport, Rhode Island.[1]
Kehidupan awal
[sunting | sunting sumber]Katherine Emmons Force lahir pada 12 Maret 1891 di Brooklyn, New York. Dia adalah putri tertua dari Angkatan William Hurlbut (1852–1917) dan Katherine Arvilla ( née Talmage) Force (1864–1939).[1] Adik perempuannya, Madeleine, adalah istri Kolonel John Jacob Astor IV dari keluarga Astor , yang meninggal saat tenggelamnya Titanic pada tahun 1912.[2]
Kehidupan pribadi
[sunting | sunting sumber]Pada 6 Desember 1922, Force menikah dengan Lorillard Suydam Spencer (1883–1939) di rumah saudara perempuannya, kemudian Ny. William Karl Dick, di 7 East 84th Street.[3] Lorillard, yang bercerai dari istri pertamanya, Mary Ridgeley Sands, adalah putra Lorillard Spencer dan Caroline Suydam (née Berryman) Spencer.[4] Bersama-sama mereka memiliki dua putra dan putri:
- Katherine Talmage Lorillard Spencer (1923–1992), yang menikah dengan Joseph Henry Doherty (1923–1992) pada tahun 1957.[5]
- Stephen Wolcott Spencer (1925-2010),[6] yang menikahi Marjorie Potts, putri Owen Lewis Potts dari Santiago, Chili, pada tahun 1957.[7]
- William Hurlbut Force Spencer (1927–2013), yang menikahi Louise Thacher Jones pada tahun 1956.[8]
Kemudian dalam hidupnya, ia menjadi investor real estat dan menjadi anggota dewan zonasi untuk Newport.
Suaminya meninggal pada tahun 1939.[9] Ia meninggal karena serangan jantung di pondoknya, Chasteullux, di Newport, Rhode Island pada 8 September 1956.[1]
