Musik abad pertengahan
Musik abad pertengahan terdiri dari lagu, karya instrumental, dan musik liturgi dari sektiar 500 M sampai 1400. Musik abad pertengahan adalah sebuah era musik Barat, yang meliputi musik liturgi yang dipakai untuk gereja, dan musik sekuler, musik non-relijius. Musik abad pertengahan meliputi musik vokal tunggal, seperti pujian Gregorian dan musik paduan suara (musik dari sekelompok penyanyi), musik instrumental tunggal, dan musik yang memakai vokal dan instrumen (biasanya dengan instrumen-instrumen yang menyertai vokal). Pujian Gregorian dinyanyikan oleh para biarawan pada Misa Katolik. Misa tersebut adalah adegan ulang dari Perjamuan Terakhir Yesus, yang ditujukan untuk memberi hubungan spiritual antara manusia dan Allah. Bagian dari hubungan tersebut dihimpun melalui musik.[1]
