Sejarah maritim adalah pembelajaran aktivitas manusia di laut.

Subyek sejarah maritim secara menyeluruh meliputi memancing, perburuan paus, hukum maritim internasional, sejarah angkatan laut, sejarah perkapalan, desain kapal, pembuatan kapal, sejarah navigasi, sejarah berbagai ilmu pengetahuan yang berkaitan dengan maritim (oseanografi, kartografi, hidrografi, dan lain-lain), eksplorasi laut, perdagangan dan ekonomi maritim, pelayaran, sanggraloka pinggir laut, sejarah mercusuar, sastra bertemakan maritim, seni bertemakan maritim, sejarah sosial para pelaut dan komunitas yang berkaitan dengan laut.[1]
