Sejarah militer Italia pada Perang Dunia II
Keterlibatan Italia dalam Perang Dunia Kedua memiliki ciri-ciri yang didasarkan pada kerangka ideologi, politik, dan diplomasi yang rumit, dan tindakan-tindakan militer Italia sering kali sangat dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor luar. Ambisi rezim Fasis yang ingin mendirikan kembali "Kekaisaran Romawi" di wilayah Laut Tengah (Mare Nostrum) sempat terpenuhi sedikit lewat aneksasi Albania dan Provinsi Ljubljana, tetapi pada akhirnya mengalami kegagalan setelah dikalahkan di teater Afrika Utara dan Timur. Pada tahun 1943, Benito Mussolini ditangkap dan ditahan atas perintah Raja Victor Emmanuel III, sehingga memicu perang saudara. Setengah bagian utara negara tersebut diduduki oleh pasukan Jerman dan menjadi sebuah negara boneka dengan lebih dari 600.000 prajurit, sementara bagian selatannya dikuasai oleh pasukan monarki dan liberal dengan jumlah lebih dari 50.000 pasukan dan dibantu oleh sekitar 350.000 anggota kelompok partisan.[1]
