Karier

The Moans, dinamai berdasarkan lagu Art Blakey, didirikan oleh sejumlah siswa akademi seni Arnhem pada pertengahan tahun 1960-an. Sejak awal, band ini memasukkan pianis, Herman Brood, ke dalam barisannya. Selepas Herman melanjutkan kariernya bersama Cuby + Blizzards, The Moans berlanjut selama beberapa saat sebagai Moan, sebagai Moan Nightmare, dan kemudian sebagai Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers pada tahun 1972.

Di pertunjukan, Moan memainkan musik Pop progresif sebelum rehat dan kemudian kembali, berpakaian seperti rocker, untuk kover Rock and Roll sebagai Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers. Frontman band ini ialah Arnie "Long Tall Ernie" Treffers bersama Alfie "Muscles" Haket pada gitar, Hank Bruysten (Hank The Knife) pada gitar bas dan, beberapa waktu kemudian, Alan "Tenderfoot" MacFarlane pada drum. Sejak tahun 1974 dan seterusnya, Hank menempuh jalannya sendiri apabila Hank The Knife & The Jets dan Treffers membuat album solo. Jan keluar pada tahun yang sama, Alfie pada tahun berikutnya dan Alan keluar pada tahun 1978, selepas lagu signature oleh Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers, "Do You Remember?" (diproduseri oleh Jaap Eggermont). Lagu "Do You Remember?" menjadi "hit of the year" di Nationale Hitparade pada tahun 1977. Yang menggantikan Alan, Alfie, Bruysten, Jan, dan Treffers, adalah, antara lain, Eugene Arts pada drum dan Jos Jaspers. Eugene dan Jos kemudian memulakan band baru dengan nama Turbo. Pada tahun 1980, grup musik ini merilis single di Jerman sebagai The Block, karena komplikasi kontrak dengan Polydor Records.

Jan Pijnenburg pergi ke Doe Maar. Jan Rietman bekerja sama dengan Bonnie St. Claire di dalam Unit Gloria. Tony Britnell sempat bermain saksofon di dalam band Shakin' Stevens.

Pada tahun 1995, Treffers wafat karena kanker paru-paru pada umur 48 tahun.
